SIMURGA: Journal of Islamic Studies and Muslim Societies is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, and open-access academic journal published and managed by CV Punggawa Legacy Center. The journal was first published in July 2026, beginning with Volume 1, Number 1, 2026, and is published in electronic/online format through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.

SIMURGA provides an academic forum for the study of Islam and Muslim societies across textual, intellectual, legal, historical, institutional, cultural, and social dimensions. The journal publishes original research concerning the Qur’an and Hadith, Islamic thought, theology, philosophy, Sufism, Islamic law, Islamic education, Islamic economics, communication and media, history, culture, politics, governance, and the changing social realities of Muslim communities.

The journal also encourages interdisciplinary research examining the relationship between Islam and contemporary developments, including citizenship, social justice, gender, family, technology, artificial intelligence, environmental sustainability, public health, migration, conflict, peacebuilding, governance, and global social transformation, provided that Islam, Islamic knowledge, Muslim institutions, or Muslim societies constitute a substantive dimension of the research.

SIMURGA is published quarterly, in January, April, July, and October, and accepts manuscripts written in English or Bahasa Indonesia. The journal applies an open-access publishing policy and provides immediate open access to all published content, allowing readers to access scholarly articles online without subscription barriers. All research articles undergo preliminary editorial screening and a peer-review process prior to publication.
